Insurance Information Institute (Triple-I)
The Insurance Information Institute (Triple-I) is a private, non-profit industry association established in 1959, dedicated to improving public understanding of insurance—what it does and how it works. Headquartered in New York City, the organization operates as a 501(c)(6) tax-exempt business league. Its core mission is to educate, elevate, and connect consumers, industry professionals, public policymakers, and media with objective, fact-based information about insurance, without engaging in lobbying or selling insurance products.
Triple-I serves as a primary resource for insurance-related data and insights, disseminating information through its website, blog, social media channels, research studies, white papers, videos, articles, and infographics. It provides comprehensive information on various insurance types, including auto, homeowners, life, annuities, health, long-term care, and disability insurance. The Institute also offers data and in-depth analysis on critical industry issues such as financial results, disasters, climate change, and fraud, and publishes resources like the "Insurance Fact Book."
Sean Kevelighan has served as the Chief Executive Officer since August 2016. In November 2020, the Insurance Information Institute finalized its affiliation with The Institutes, a leading provider of risk management and insurance knowledge solutions. Recent activities include the April 2026 publication of an Issues Brief on Severe Convective Storms, reporting $51 billion in U.S. insured losses in 2025, and the June 2026 release of RiskScan 2026 in collaboration with Munich Re US, which examines evolving risk perceptions. The organization also reported that U.S. insurers paid an estimated $1.65 billion in lightning-related homeowners insurance claims in 2025.
