The Canadian Real Estate Association (CREA)
The Canadian Real Estate Association (CREA) is a national non-profit trade association representing over 160,000 real estate brokers, agents, and salespeople across Canada. Headquartered in Ottawa, Ontario, CREA's core mission is to encourage, empower, and enable REALTORS® in support of Canadian real estate journeys, while also enhancing members' professionalism, competency, and profitability. The association advocates for governmental policies that improve the industry's market environment and protect public real property rights and ownership.
CREA provides a range of key products and services to its members and the public. These include operating REALTOR.ca, a prominent public-facing home search portal and national Multiple Listing Service (MLS®) system, and CREA WEBForms®, a digital solution for real estate transactions. The association also maintains and enforces the REALTOR® Code of Ethics, setting professional standards for its members, and collects, analyzes, and disseminates vital market data and statistics on the Canadian housing and real estate industry.
In recent news, Garry Bhaura was installed as Chair of CREA's Board of Directors in April 2026, with Janice Myers serving as CEO. The association recently downgraded its housing market forecast for 2026, citing increased fixed mortgage rates and weaker sales in the first quarter. Additionally, in October 2024, CREA members voted to transition REALTOR.ca into a wholly owned taxable subsidiary to foster long-term growth and sustainability. The Canadian Competition Bureau also launched an investigation into CREA's buyer's commission policies in 2024.
