National Association of REALTORS® (NAR)

The National Association of REALTORS® (NAR) is the largest trade association in the United States for real estate professionals, representing over 1.5 million members involved in all aspects of the residential and commercial real estate industries. Founded in 1908, its mission is "to empower REALTORS® as they preserve, protect and advance the right to real property for all." The organization is headquartered in Chicago, Illinois, with a significant advocacy office in Washington D.C.

NAR provides a comprehensive suite of services including professional development, research, and advocacy for its members. Key offerings include governance of Multiple Listing Services (MLSs), the official website Realtor.com, and the Realtors Property Resource (RPR), a proprietary real estate database. The association also establishes and enforces a strict Code of Ethics for its members, who are identified by the registered collective membership mark "REALTOR®."

As of early 2026, NAR is undergoing a strategic plan overhaul, focusing on modernizing the member experience, rebuilding trust, and advancing affordable housing initiatives. Recent notable developments include responses to the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) regarding guidance on steering rules and ongoing efforts in brand protection.
