Nacha
Nacha, formerly known as the National Automated Clearing House Association, is a not-for-profit organization that governs the Automated Clearing House (ACH) Network, the electronic funds transfer system for money and data movement in the United States. Established in 1974, its core mission is to advance the nation's payments system by developing electronic solutions that benefit its members and their customers. Nacha's headquarters are located in Reston, Virginia.
The organization's key services include developing and enforcing the Nacha Operating Rules that govern ACH transactions, providing education, accreditation programs (such as Accredited ACH Professional and Accredited Payments Risk Professional), and advisory services to financial institutions and other payments industry stakeholders. The ACH Network, which Nacha oversees, facilitates billions of Direct Deposits and Direct Payments annually, serving consumers, businesses, and government entities. Nacha also drives innovation through initiatives like Phixius, a secure peer-to-peer network for payment-related information, and Afinis Interoperability Standards, which promotes API standardization.
Nacha is led by President and CEO Jane Larimer. The ACH Network processed 35.2 billion payments valued at $93 trillion in 2025, demonstrating its central role in the U.S. payments landscape. Recent developments include the implementation of new Nacha Rules in March and June 2026, which mandate enhanced risk-based fraud monitoring and transaction oversight for non-consumer ACH participants to combat credit-push fraud. Additionally, the Same Day ACH per payment limit is set to increase to $10 million, reflecting ongoing efforts to modernize and expand the network's capabilities.
