CITGO Petroleum Corporation
CITGO Petroleum Corporation is a U.S.-based downstream petroleum company headquartered in Houston, Texas. Its core business involves the refining, marketing, and transportation of various petroleum products. The company operates with a commitment to quality, innovation, safety, integrity, and community engagement, guided by a philosophy of investing in people and improving lives in the communities where it operates.
CITGO's key products include transportation fuels such as gasoline, diesel, and jet fuel, as well as a comprehensive range of lubricants marketed under the CITGO, Mystik®, and Clarion® brands. The company also produces and distributes petrochemicals and other industrial products. Its services encompass refining operations across three major facilities, an extensive network of pipelines and terminals for transportation, and supply and trading activities. CITGO supplies motor fuels to independent marketers through nearly 6,000 branded retail outlets, markets jet fuel directly to airlines, and sells lubricants and petrochemicals to various industrial and commercial customers.
Currently, CITGO operates three highly complex refineries with a combined crude capacity of 829,000 barrels per day, positioning it as one of the largest refiners in the United States. Carlos E. Jordá serves as the President and CEO. The company is privately held and is an indirect subsidiary of Petróleos de Venezuela, S.A. (PDVSA), the state-owned oil company of Venezuela. Due to U.S. sanctions and creditor claims against its parent company, PDV Holding, CITGO has been at the center of a prolonged legal dispute, with a federal judge approving the sale of PDV Holding's shares to Amber Energy in December 2025, though the transaction is pending regulatory approvals. In recent news, construction began in May 2026 on the repositioning of the iconic CITGO Sign in Kenmore Square, Boston.
