ViaPath Foundation Launches 2026 Grant to Empower At-Risk Communities

FALLS CHURCH, Va. – January 26, 2026 – The ViaPath Foundation, the philanthropic arm of corrections technology firm ViaPath Technologies, today announced the launch of its 2026 Impact Grant program. The foundation is now accepting applications from nonprofit organizations across the United States that are dedicated to empowering at-risk communities through initiatives focused on youth support, advocacy, and the creation of meaningful career pathways.

The application window, which opened today, will run through February 20, 2026. This initiative represents the foundation's ongoing commitment to addressing systemic challenges faced by vulnerable populations, including justice-impacted individuals, returning citizens, veterans, and their families.

Corporate Philanthropy in the Corrections Sector

The ViaPath Foundation was established in 2022 by its parent company, ViaPath Technologies. The company, which rebranded from Global Tel*Link Corporation (GTL) in 2022, is a major provider of technology and communications solutions for the corrections industry. It serves nearly 2,000 correctional facilities across the United States, offering services that include secure telephone calls, video visitation, messaging, and educational tablets for incarcerated individuals.

The company has stated its mission is to "break the cycle of incarceration through transformative technology." This includes deploying over 450,000 educational tablets, known as Inspire™, which provide access to vocational training, job boards, and educational content. ViaPath Technologies reports that incarcerated individuals logged over four million learning hours on these devices in 2022. The company also positions itself as a "Second Chance Employer," actively hiring justice-involved individuals.

The foundation's work operates in parallel with its parent company's business interests, creating a dynamic where the corporate entity profits from the corrections system while its philanthropic arm works to mitigate the system's negative impacts. This dual role reflects a growing trend of corporate social responsibility within complex and often controversial industries. A Track Record of Targeted Giving

Since its inception, the ViaPath Foundation has directed its resources toward specific, often overlooked, populations. Its grant-making history illustrates a consistent focus on youth and families impacted by incarceration.

In its inaugural 2022 grant cycle, the foundation awarded $135,000 to four organizations, including Together We Rise and Comfort Cases, which support children in the foster care system—a group that often overlaps with families affected by the justice system. Subsequent grant cycles continued this theme. The 2023 grants focused on the "hidden victims" of incarceration, namely the children of incarcerated parents, while the 2024 cycle awarded $120,000 to a dozen organizations expanding opportunities for at-risk youth and families.

Past recipients include well-regarded nonprofits such as Amachi Pittsburgh and the U.S. Dream Academy, which provide mentorship to children with incarcerated parents, and Big Brothers Big Sisters of the National Capital Area. Other grantees, like Edwins Leadership & Restaurant Institute, focus on providing culinary and hospitality training to formerly incarcerated adults to ensure stable employment.

According to available data, the foundation's programs have supported 25 organizations, impacting over 3,100 individuals with more than $400,000 in grants to date. These investments are channeled through four core programs: the Bright Futures Fund, Champions of Change, 2C Your Impact, and Operation Veteran Reentry, which collectively aim to foster resilience and expand opportunities.
