HANNOVER, GERMANY – April 20, 2026 – Against the backdrop of the world’s largest industrial technology trade show, Hannover Messe, Tiger Data today announced a direct challenge to the incumbents of industrial data management. The company has launched TimescaleDB Enterprise, a commercially licensed, self-managed time-series database designed specifically for the rigorous demands of on-premises, edge, and customer-managed cloud environments.
The new offering aims to modernize the data infrastructure of sectors that form the backbone of the global economy—manufacturing, energy, utilities, and defense—where moving operational data to a third-party cloud is often impossible due to security, regulatory, and operational constraints.
The Data Sovereignty Imperative
For decades, industrial operations have been dominated by legacy historian platforms, but many of these systems are now approaching their end of life. This transition coincides with a global trend toward stricter data sovereignty and localization laws. Nations are increasingly mandating that data generated within their borders, especially from critical infrastructure, must stay there. It allows organizations to leverage the reliability, security, and vast ecosystem of PostgreSQL while gaining powerful, specialized features for time-series data.
Unlike many purpose-built time-series databases that use proprietary data models, TimescaleDB stores data in standard PostgreSQL format, accessible via standard SQL. If a customer chooses to end their commercial subscription, they retain full access to their data and can continue operating with the open-source version of TimescaleDB.
