SAN MARCOS, Calif. – May 05, 2026 – The City of San Marcos is embarking on an ambitious journey to become a beacon of community well-being, launching a partnership with Stanbridge University for the nationally recognized Blue Zones Ignite™ initiative. This collaboration marks the first of its kind in San Diego County, aiming to systematically reshape the city's environment to foster longer, healthier, and more connected lives for its residents.

The initiative moves beyond traditional health campaigns focused on individual willpower. Instead, it employs an evidence-based strategy of making permanent and semi-permanent changes to public policy, urban infrastructure, and social networks. The goal is to make the healthy choice the easy choice, drawing inspiration from global "Blue Zones"—regions where people naturally live exceptionally long and vibrant lives.

At the heart of the San Marcos effort is the Blue Zones Ignite™ assessment, a comprehensive, six-month deep dive into the city's existing landscape. A team of Blue Zones experts will collaborate with local leaders and residents to analyze everything from city planning and food systems to social engagement opportunities and public spaces.
