OLX's AutoGPT: The AI Car Salesman Is Now Your Co-Pilot
AMSTERDAM, NL – April 02, 2026
The often-frustrating process of buying a used car—a gauntlet of endless filters, confusing listings, and market uncertainty—is facing a radical overhaul. OLX Group, a dominant force in Europe's digital marketplace landscape, has officially launched AutoGPT, a conversational AI assistant designed to act as a personal expert for car buyers. Developed in partnership with OpenAI, the new tool aims to replace cumbersome search menus with natural, intuitive conversation, fundamentally changing how consumers find their next vehicle.
Initially rolled out for OLX's OTOMOTO platform in Poland, the AI assistant is slated for deployment across the group's other major automotive brands, including LaCentrale in France, Autovit.ro in Romania, and Standvirtual in Portugal. The move signals a significant escalation in the use of artificial intelligence to not just streamline, but intelligently guide, major consumer purchases.
The AI Co-Pilot: Redefining the Car Search
For years, online car shopping has been a static experience defined by checkboxes and dropdown menus. Buyers are expected to know the precise make, model, year, and mileage they want, navigating a rigid system to narrow down thousands of options. AutoGPT discards this model entirely. Instead, it presents users with a simple chat interface, inviting them to describe their needs in plain language: “I’m looking for a reliable family SUV under 100,000 PLN with good fuel economy,” or “I need a fuel-efficient city car with low mileage for my daily commute.”
From there, the AI engages in a diagnostic conversation, asking clarifying questions about budget, essential features, and priorities to build a comprehensive picture of the user's ideal car. Within seconds, it generates a curated shortlist. Early results shared by OLX indicate this conversational approach allows consumers to find their ideal vehicle at least 20% faster than with traditional search methods.
More importantly, the tool demonstrates a grasp of market realities that goes beyond simple keyword matching. Anecdotal reports from early users in Poland describe how the AI provides practical, realistic feedback. When one user searched for a “reliable family SUV under 100,000 PLN that was no more than 3 years old,” AutoGPT correctly identified the request as largely unrealistic in the current market. Instead of returning no results, it explained the market constraints and suggested more viable alternatives that were close to the user's budget, effectively acting as a knowledgeable and honest consultant.
The 'Unfair Advantage': Data-Driven Market Intelligence
What truly separates AutoGPT from generic AI models is the engine running under the hood: OLX's vast repository of proprietary data. This isn't a chatbot trained on the open internet; it's a specialized tool honed on millions of verified transactions from across OLX’s platforms. This first-party data provides the AI with a level of market intelligence that public models lack, including real-world resale value trends, granular regional pricing patterns, dealer performance metrics, and actual buyer behavior.
This data-driven foundation means AutoGPT can answer questions that were previously impossible for a search engine. A user can not only ask if a car's price is fair but also inquire about its likely depreciation over the next three years in their specific region. The AI can highlight trade-offs, pointing out that while one model may be cheaper upfront, another holds its value significantly better, making it a smarter long-term purchase. This transforms the AI from a mere search tool into a powerful advisory service, empowering consumers with insights previously available only to industry insiders.
Operating in data-sensitive regions like the European Union, OLX underscores its commitment to ethical AI deployment through its “Responsible AI Principles.” As AI-driven personalization becomes more powerful, ensuring transparency, user control, and data privacy in line with regulations like GDPR is not just a legal requirement but a critical component of building consumer trust.
Building the 'Agentic Marketplace'
The launch of AutoGPT is a pivotal piece in OLX's much larger strategic vision: the creation of a fully “agentic marketplace.” This futuristic concept envisions a platform where intelligent AI agents seamlessly represent and execute tasks for both buyers and sellers, dramatically increasing market efficiency.
AutoGPT represents the buyer-side agent. Its counterpart, AutoIQ, has been serving the seller side for over eight months. AutoIQ is an AI system designed for car dealers, helping them automate operations, optimize pricing, and manage listings more effectively. According to OLX, dealers using AutoIQ publish listings up to 36% faster and show a 12% increase in responsiveness to customer inquiries.
“AutoGPT completes our vision of an AI-powered marketplace on both sides of the transaction,” said Christian Gisy, CEO of OLX Group, in the company’s announcement. “AutoIQ has been using AI to help our customers, the car dealers, make smarter decisions... AutoGPT now brings that same intelligence to consumers... The result is a marketplace where Agentic AI powers both sides of the transaction, making it faster and smarter for everyone.”
This ambitious strategy is backed by a massive financial commitment. Since 2018, OLX has invested over $200 million in building its AI-first infrastructure. The company now runs more than 2,600 AI agents and has 75 active AI use cases deployed, with 10 of those being agentic applications launched in the first half of 2026 alone.
A Cross-Vertical Playbook for AI Dominance
OLX’s AI strategy is not confined to the automotive sector. The company is leveraging a cross-vertical playbook to accelerate innovation, a move that its leadership believes provides a significant structural advantage. Just weeks before AutoGPT's debut, OLX launched CompassGPT, a similar conversational AI for its real estate portal, Imovirtual, in Portugal.
“What gives us a structural advantage is our ability to transfer learnings across verticals,” noted Tim Davis, Chief Product and Technology Officer at OLX. “We launched CompassGPT for real estate just a few weeks ago and are already applying those insights to accelerate AutoGPT deployment. That cross-category knowledge loop means we move faster and deliver better experiences than anyone building in a single vertical.”
This repeatable model for deploying sophisticated, data-rich AI agents is central to the strategy of OLX and its parent company, Prosus. With a clear ambition to build a leading e-commerce ecosystem, the integration of powerful AI tools into its portfolio of brands is a top priority. The planned rollout of AutoGPT to LaCentrale, a major French classifieds site acquired by OLX in late 2025, is a prime example of this strategy in action. It demonstrates a clear playbook: acquire a market leader, and then supercharge its platform with a proprietary, data-driven AI that competitors cannot easily replicate.
