VINYL INSTITUTE INC.
The Vinyl Institute is a U.S. trade organization established in 1982, representing leading manufacturers of vinyl, vinyl chloride monomer, and vinyl additives and modifiers. Headquartered in Washington, D.C., its core mission is to shape the future of the vinyl industry by promoting growth, innovation, and corporate stewardship. The Institute serves as the primary voice for the PVC/vinyl industry, engaging stakeholders to advance its interests and communicate the benefits of vinyl products.
The organization's services primarily involve advocacy, education, and support for its members across the vinyl value chain. It focuses on advancing policies that foster industry growth, protecting economic interests, and addressing regulatory issues. The Vinyl Institute promotes and defends the image of vinyl, provides science-based information to specifiers, and supports the use of vinyl in diverse applications such as building and construction (e.g., piping, flooring, siding), healthcare, automotive, and packaging. A significant area of focus is sustainability, including initiatives to advance PVC recycling and responsible manufacturing practices through programs like +Vantage Vinyl, managed by the Vinyl Sustainability Council.
Ned Monroe serves as the President and CEO of the Vinyl Institute, having also been selected as Chair of the Global Vinyl Council in July 2023. Recent activities include the November 2024 recognition of 28 facilities for outstanding health, safety, and environmental performance, and the honoring of 2024 Industry Partners of the Year. In April 2026, the Institute released a report indicating that over 1.127 billion pounds of PVC were recycled in the U.S. and Canada in 2024, and in March 2026, it launched an enhanced online Recycling Directory to facilitate vinyl material recovery. The Vinyl Sustainability Council, in partnership with the Institute, also released its 2024 +Vantage Vinyl® Progress Report, highlighting the sustainability achievements of 30 verified companies.
