Vast
Vast is an American aerospace company headquartered in Long Beach, California, founded in 2021 by entrepreneur Jed McCaleb. Its core mission is to develop next-generation space stations and infrastructure to ensure a continuous human presence in space, facilitating advanced microgravity research and manufacturing, and fostering a new space economy for government, corporate, and private customers.
The company's primary offerings include the multi-module Haven Station, with Haven-1 slated to be the world's first commercial space station, expected to launch in 2027. Vast also recently introduced Vast Satellite, a product line of high-power satellite buses designed for various orbital missions, leveraging technologies developed for its space stations. In February 2023, Vast acquired Launcher, integrating its assets and operations.
Led by CEO Max Haot, Vast secured $500 million in new funding in March 2026 to advance its strategic roadmap, which includes future habitats for the Moon and Mars. The company's Haven Demo mission in 2025 successfully tested critical space station technologies, positioning Vast as an operational commercial space station company. In August 2026, Vast confirmed a reduction of 46 employees, approximately 4% of its workforce, as part of a mid-year review.
