Telenor ASA
Telenor ASA is a Norwegian majority state-owned multinational telecommunications company headquartered in Fornebu, Bærum, west of Oslo, Norway. Established in 1855 as a state-operated telegraph service, its core business today revolves around providing trusted connectivity and critical infrastructure, enabling digital freedom, security, and sustainable progress. The company's mission is to be a driving force in creating, simplifying, and introducing communication and content solutions to the market, empowering societies by connecting people to what matters most.
Telenor offers a comprehensive range of telecommunication services, including mobile and fixed telephony, internet access, and digital television. Its product and service portfolio also extends to IT services, digital solutions, Internet of Things (IoT) solutions, cloud services, cybersecurity, satellite broadcasting, and Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP). The company primarily focuses its operations in Scandinavia and Asia, holding a strong position in the Nordic broadband and TV markets and maintaining mobile operations across countries like Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Finland, Bangladesh, Malaysia, Thailand, and Pakistan.
Led by President and CEO Benedicte Schilbred Fasmer, Telenor is currently undergoing a strategic transformation. Effective August 18, 2026, the company is implementing a streamlined, country-centric organizational structure to enhance customer and market proximity. Recent strategic moves include the acquisition of a controlling stake in Swedish broadband provider Bahnhof in July 2026, which is expected to make Telenor Sweden's second-largest fixed broadband provider, and the acquisition of Enivest in June 2026. Telenor also received approval to acquire GlobalConnect's Norwegian fiber business in May 2026. These actions underscore Telenor's renewed focus on strengthening its Nordic market position, alongside its ongoing efforts to divest from certain Asian operations, such as the sale of Telenor Pakistan earlier this year and the agreed sale of True Corp in Thailand. Telenor remains one of the world's largest mobile telecommunications companies and the only telecom operator with significant operations in all four Nordic markets.
