South University

South University is a private, non-profit academic institution dedicated to providing educational opportunities for the intellectual, social, and professional development of a diverse student population. Founded in 1899 in Savannah, Georgia, as Draughon's Practical Business College, it evolved through several name changes before becoming South University in 2001. The university's mission is centered on cultivating a dynamic learning environment that fosters professional readiness and a sense of social responsibility, with its main administrative functions headquartered in Savannah, Georgia.

The institution returned to being an independent private entity in July 2023, after a period under various ownership structures, and is now a non-profit. However, South University was placed on warning by its accrediting organization in June 2024 for governance issues and faces a substantial $35 million balloon payment on a Federal Reserve loan in November 2025.
