The Ontario Health Coalition (OHC) is a non-partisan public interest activist coalition dedicated to protecting and improving Ontario's public health care system. Its core mission involves upholding the five principles of the Canada Health Act: universality, comprehensiveness, portability, accessibility, and public administration. The organization's headquarters are located at PO Box 113, North York ON M3C 2R6.
The OHC provides public education, conducts research reports on health care issues, and advocates against the privatization, cuts, and delisting of health care services. It empowers its constituent organizations and the broader public with information about the health care system. The Coalition represents over 500 member organizations, including seniors' groups, patients' organizations, unions, nurses, health professionals, and non-profit community agencies, forming a network of Local Health Coalitions across Ontario.
Under the leadership of Executive Director Natalie Mehra, the Ontario Health Coalition remains a prominent voice in the province's healthcare landscape. Recently, the OHC has been actively organizing province-wide protests and rallies against the Ford government's policies, particularly focusing on the privatization of hospital services and concerns over private clinics charging unlawful fees. The organization continues to advocate for increased public hospital funding, an end to hospital closures, and the development of public, non-profit long-term care and home care systems.
