Ontario Confederation of University Faculty Associations (OCUFA)
The Ontario Confederation of University Faculty Associations (OCUFA) is a Canadian non-profit organization established in 1964, serving as the collective voice for over 18,000 university faculty, academic librarians, and academic professionals across Ontario. Its core mission is to maintain and enhance the quality of the province's higher education system, while also advancing the professional and economic interests of its members. OCUFA's headquarters are located in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
OCUFA provides a range of services and resources to its 30 member faculty associations, including research and logistical support for collective bargaining and grievance management. The organization facilitates information exchange, sponsors committees, organizes workshops, and compiles data on economic benefits and university funding. It also publishes research papers on higher education trends and offers a discount program through Edvantage. OCUFA produces several publications, including the biannual journal "Academic Matters," the weekly electronic newsletter "OCUFA Report," and the "Trends in Higher Education" series.
As a provincial advocate, OCUFA actively engages with the Government of Ontario, other higher education stakeholders, and the media to represent the needs and concerns of its members. This advocacy is conducted through public campaigns, publications, and direct meetings with policymakers, often informed by public opinion polls and relevant data. Recent activities include expressing alarm over the government's proposal to oversee accountability and performance measures and evaluate campus free speech, releasing its 2026 Pre-Budget Submission, and opening nominations for its 2025-2026 Annual Awards of Distinction. Rob Kristofferson serves as OCUFA President, and Jenny Ahn is the Executive Director.
