The company utilizes its proprietary Bitumen Extraction and Separation Technology (BEST) to break down single-use asphalt shingles into their primary components: liquid asphalt, aggregate, and fiber. These reprocessed materials are then sold for various applications, including new hot mix asphalt, shingle manufacturing, asphalt flat roof systems, and other construction and industrial products. Northstar also generates revenue through tipping fees for shingle disposal.

Led by CEO Aidan Mills, Northstar operates an Empower Pilot Facility in Delta, British Columbia, and a commercial-scale facility in Calgary, Alberta, with plans for further expansion, including a first U.S. location in Baltimore, Maryland. Recent developments include securing a US$10 million private placement in early 2026 and reporting on the successful production of liquid asphalt and solid asphalt pellets from recycled shingles in Q3 2025. The company also secured a new patent for limestone recovery, enhancing its intellectual property portfolio.
