The Recording Academy, officially known as the National Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences, Inc., is an American professional organization dedicated to recognizing excellence in the recording arts and sciences, cultivating the well-being of the music community, and ensuring music remains an indelible part of global culture. Headquartered in Santa Monica, California, the Academy serves as a leading voice for music creators and professionals.

Beyond its most recognized role as the administrator of the prestigious Grammy Awards, the Recording Academy engages in year-round activities to support the music industry. Its core services include advocating for music creators' rights at local, state, and federal levels, providing professional development and educational programs, and offering assistance to musicians in need through its charitable foundation, MusiCares. The Academy also established the Grammy Museum, dedicated to preserving and educating about music history. The organization serves a vast community of over 30,000 members, encompassing songwriters, performers, producers, engineers, and other music professionals.

Under the leadership of CEO Harvey Mason jr. and Board of Trustees Chair Dr. Chelsey Green, the Academy continues to evolve its initiatives. Dr. Green made history as the first Black woman and youngest person to hold the Chair position. Recent developments include the introduction of new Grammy categories and updated rules, such as the 2023 directive that only human creators are eligible for nominations, reflecting the rise of AI in music. The Academy has also focused on diversity, equity, and inclusion, extending membership invitations to thousands of diverse music professionals, and co-launched the Global Music Diplomacy Initiative with the U.S. Department of State in September 2023.
