The Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas (MoPNG) is a pivotal ministry within the Government of India, tasked with the comprehensive oversight of the nation's hydrocarbon sector. Its core business encompasses the exploration, production, refining, distribution, marketing, import, export, and conservation of petroleum, natural gas, petroleum products, and liquefied natural gas across India. The Ministry's overarching mission is to ensure India's energy security, promote energy access, enhance energy efficiency, and drive energy sustainability. Its headquarters are located in Kartavya Bhawan-03, Janpath, New Delhi, India.

The MoPNG's key services involve the formulation and implementation of policies, regulatory frameworks, and the strategic oversight of various public sector undertakings (PSUs) operating within the oil and gas industry. The Ministry's initiatives include boosting domestic production through policies such as the Hydrocarbon Exploration Licensing Policy and advancing cleaner energy solutions via the National Policy on Biofuels. It addresses all segments of the oil and gas market, including upstream activities like exploration and production, midstream operations such as pipelines and transportation, and downstream functions like refining, distribution, and marketing.

Currently led by Cabinet Minister Hardeep Singh Puri, the Ministry has been actively navigating global energy challenges to maintain India's energy stability. Recent efforts include ensuring stable energy supplies and shielding consumers from international price shocks by absorbing fiscal impacts. The MoPNG is also focused on expanding the piped natural gas (PNG) infrastructure to reduce reliance on liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) and promote cleaner energy alternatives, alongside increasing domestic LPG production and diversifying crude oil sourcing to enhance national energy resilience.
