MetLife Foundation is the independent charitable and grant-awarding arm of MetLife, Inc., established in 1976. Its core mission is to drive inclusive economic mobility by addressing the needs of underserved and underrepresented individuals and communities globally. The Foundation's headquarters are located in New York, NY.
The Foundation focuses its philanthropic efforts across three strategic areas: Economic Empowerment, Financial Health, and Resilient Communities. Economic Empowerment initiatives aim to equip young people and adults with skills for the 21st-century workforce. Financial Health programs connect individuals with resources for stability, savings, and asset building. Resilient Communities efforts promote well-being through support for food security, mental health, and environmental sustainability. MetLife Foundation also engages in impact investments, seeking to generate measurable social and environmental benefits alongside financial returns.
Led by President and CEO Tia Hodges, MetLife Foundation has contributed over $1 billion in giving since its inception. Recent activities include a $5 million global expansion of its Community Impact Grant Program and a $9 million commitment to the FIFA Global Citizen Education Fund in 2025. In April 2026, the Foundation awarded over $6.5 million globally to address essential community needs. It also leverages MetLife employee expertise through programs like MetLife Skills for Impact, a skills-based volunteering initiative.
