Lumina Foundation is an independent, private foundation headquartered in Indianapolis, Indiana. Established in 2000, its core mission is to increase the proportion of Americans with high-quality college degrees, certificates, and other postsecondary credentials. The foundation aims to prepare individuals for informed citizenship and success in a global economy, working towards a goal that 75 percent of adults in the U.S. labor force will hold such credentials by 2040.

The foundation's work primarily involves grantmaking, technical assistance, research, and public policy outreach. It focuses on expanding opportunities for learning beyond high school for all, with a particular emphasis on underserved populations, including Black, Hispanic, Latino, and Native American learners, first-generation college students, and those from low-income families. Lumina partners with various educational institutions, such as community colleges, public universities, Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), Hispanic-Serving Institutions (HSIs), and tribal colleges.

Jamie P. Merisotis has served as the President and CEO of Lumina Foundation since 2008. The foundation is recognized as one of the largest philanthropies in the United States dedicated exclusively to postsecondary education attainment, managing an endowment of approximately $1.5 billion. Lumina Foundation emphasizes addressing racial injustice within the education system and ensuring that credentials earned provide tangible value and lead to economic prosperity.
