The Investment Company Institute (ICI) is a leading global association representing the asset management industry, founded in 1940. Headquartered in Washington, DC, with additional offices in Brussels, London, and Hong Kong, its core mission is to strengthen the foundation of the asset management industry for the ultimate benefit of the long-term individual investor. This involves enhancing policy and regulatory frameworks, promoting sound governance, and advancing investor interests through education and expanded access to professionally managed products.

ICI serves its members by advocating for regulatory policies and legislation, providing extensive research, and disseminating statistical data on the fund industry, investors, and retirement plans. It represents a broad spectrum of regulated funds, including mutual funds, exchange-traded funds (ETFs), closed-end funds, and unit investment trusts (UITs) in the United States, as well as similar funds like UCITS globally. The Institute is a primary source for fund statistics and offers resources to the media, while also providing commentary to regulatory bodies such as the SEC.

Under the leadership of President and CEO Eric J. Pan and Chair Andrew R. Schlossberg, ICI maintains a prominent position in the financial industry. Recent activities include hosting its 2026 Leadership Summit in Washington, DC, and its 2026 ETF Conference in Nashville. The Institute has also been actively involved in policy advocacy, leading a coalition to support the GROWTH Act of 2025 and applauding the Supreme Court's decision in FS Credit Opportunities Corp. v. Saba. As of late 2025, ICI's research highlighted that IRAs held $19.2 trillion, underscoring their central role in US retirement savings. ICI represents over 29,000 funds managing more than $46 trillion in assets, solidifying its role as a key advocate for the asset management industry.
