Green Shield Association

GreenShield is a Canadian non-profit health care and insurance organization headquartered in Windsor, Ontario. Founded in 1957 by pharmacist William Wilkinson, its core mission is to champion "Better Health for All" by ensuring accessible healthcare for Canadians. As a social enterprise, GreenShield reinvests its earnings to advance health equity across the country.

The company operates as Canada's first "payer-provider," integrating health insurance, benefits administration, and claims payment with direct health services. Its offerings include comprehensive health and dental plans for individuals and employees, covering prescription drugs, paramedical services, mental health support, vision care, and various dental services. GreenShield also provides telemedicine, digital pharmacy, and specialty pharmacy services.

Led by President and CEO Zahid Salman since 2018, GreenShield has expanded its reach to serve over 7.5 million Canadians. The organization is committed to its social impact initiatives, aiming to positively affect three million Canadians by 2030. In June 2026, GreenShield partnered with BMO Insurance to launch a new health and dental product for individual Canadians. Additionally, recent research published in June 2026 by GreenShield highlighted mental health challenges among young Canadian men.
