General Fusion Inc.
General Fusion Inc. is a Canadian clean energy company focused on developing commercial fusion power technology. Founded in 2002 by Dr. Michel Laberge, the company's mission is to commercialize fusion energy to provide economical, carbon-free power. Its headquarters are located in Richmond, British Columbia, Canada.
General Fusion's core technology is Magnetized Target Fusion (MTF), an approach that involves injecting hydrogen plasma into a sphere of spinning liquid metal, which is then compressed by pistons to achieve fusion conditions. This method utilizes a liquid metal wall to shield the fusion vessel, produce tritium fuel, and efficiently capture energy. A key development is the Lawson Machine 26 (LM26), a large-scale MTF demonstration machine, designed to achieve fusion conditions exceeding 100 million degrees Celsius by 2025 and progress towards scientific breakeven equivalent by 2026.
In January 2026, General Fusion announced plans to become a publicly traded company through a business combination with Spring Valley Acquisition Corp. III (NASDAQ: SVAC). This transaction, expected to close in mid-2026, will result in the combined entity trading on Nasdaq under the ticker symbol "GFUZ," positioning General Fusion as potentially the first publicly traded pure-play fusion company. Led by CEO Greg Twinney and founder Dr. Michel Laberge, the company is recognized as a leader in the fusion industry, being one of only four private companies globally to have achieved and published meaningful peer-reviewed fusion results.
