Foundation for Opioid Response Efforts (FORE)
The Foundation for Opioid Response Efforts (FORE) is an independent, private, national grantmaking organization established in 2018. Its core mission is to identify and advance innovative, patient-centered, and evidence-based solutions to address the opioid and drug overdose crisis in the United States. Headquartered in New York, NY, FORE operates as a 501(c)(3) non-profit entity.
FORE's work is structured around four key areas: Professional Education, which involves educating healthcare and other professionals on prevention and evidence-based treatment; Payer & Provider Strategies, focused on developing sustainable prevention, treatment, and recovery models; Policy Initiatives, aimed at informing state and federal policies to ensure access to care; and Public Awareness, which seeks to raise awareness of effective strategies to curtail the crisis. The foundation supports projects across the continuum of prevention, harm reduction, treatment, and recovery, with a particular focus on high-risk populations such as communities of color, justice-involved individuals, women, and rural communities.
Karen A. Scott, MD, MPH, serves as the President of FORE. The organization has been active in awarding significant grants, including $10.9 million in 2022 to fund prevention programs for vulnerable children and families. More recently, FORE's leadership has commented on the national trend of slow spending of opioid settlement dollars by local governments, highlighting the challenges in effective program implementation.
