Forests Canada

Forests Canada is a national charity dedicated to the conservation, restoration, and growth of Canada's forests to sustain life and communities. Headquartered in Barrie, Ontario, the organization's mission is to foster diverse, resilient, and thriving forests for current and future generations.

The charity implements a range of programs focused on increasing forest cover and improving forest health. Key initiatives include tree planting and forest stewardship programs, seed collection and management for genetic diversity, and community engagement efforts like 'Take Root' and 'Shared Pathways' which support First Nations communities in ecological restoration. Forests Canada also provides educational programs such as the Ontario Envirothon to inspire future environmental stewards.

Formerly known as Forests Ontario, the organization rebranded to Forests Canada on November 7, 2024, to reflect its expanded national impact and goals across Canada. Led by CEO Jess Kaknevicius, Forests Canada is recognized as an official Restoration Implementer of the United Nations Decade on Ecosystem Restoration, working with partners to address climate change, biodiversity loss, and support local economies.
