Food Lion, LLC is an American regional supermarket chain headquartered in Salisbury, North Carolina. Founded in 1957 as Food Town, the company rebranded to Food Lion in 1983. Its core mission is to provide an easy, fresh, and affordable shopping experience, committed to affordability, freshness, and the communities it serves, with a stated goal of "nourishing its neighbors".
Food Lion operates over 1,000 supermarkets across 10 Southeastern and Mid-Atlantic states, including Delaware, Georgia, Kentucky, Maryland, North Carolina, South Carolina, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Virginia, and West Virginia. The retailer offers a wide range of products, including groceries, fresh produce, meat, seafood, dairy, deli, bakery, health and beauty items, and pharmacy services. It also provides online grocery delivery and pickup, and features private brands such as My Essentials, Nature's Promise, and Taste of Inspirations.
As a subsidiary of Ahold Delhaize, Food Lion maintains a market positioning focused on value and customer convenience. Greg Finchum is slated to become President of Food Lion in May 2025, succeeding Meg Ham. The company is actively involved in hunger relief through its "Food Lion Feeds" initiative, which has donated over 1.5 billion meals since 2014 and aims to provide 3 billion meals by 2032. In recent years, Food Lion has expanded its footprint, including the acquisition and rebranding of 62 Southeastern Grocers stores in 2020-2021.
