Eternal Word Television Network Inc. (EWTN Global Catholic Network)
EWTN Global Catholic Network, officially known as Eternal Word Television Network Inc., is an American non-profit organization dedicated to broadcasting Catholic programming worldwide. Founded by Mother Angelica in 1980, it began broadcasting in 1981 from Irondale, Alabama, which remains its headquarters. The network's core mission is to advance the truth as defined by the Magisterium of the Roman Catholic Church, serving its orthodox belief and teaching by proclaiming the hope found in Jesus Christ through various media platforms.
As the world's largest religious media network, EWTN offers a comprehensive suite of products and services. This includes 11 global television channels broadcasting 24/7 in multiple languages to over 435 million households across more than 160 countries. Beyond television, EWTN operates extensive radio services via SiriusXM, iHeart Radio, and numerous AM/FM and shortwave affiliates. Its digital presence encompasses the official website, streaming platforms like Roku and YouTube, and the upcoming EWTN+ streaming service. The network also features a robust news division, EWTN News (which includes the National Catholic Register and Catholic News Agency), a book publishing arm, and an e-commerce platform, the EWTN Religious Catalogue, offering religious items.
Michael P. Warsaw serves as the Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer, leading the network's strategic direction. In a notable development in June 2026, Montse Alvarado, President and COO of EWTN News, was appointed to head the Vatican Dicastery for Communication by Pope Leo XIV. EWTN recently garnered significant recognition at the 2026 Catholic Media Awards, receiving over 75 honors, including 30 first-place awards, for its extensive coverage of major Church events, such as the death of Pope Francis and the election of Pope Leo XIV. The network continues to expand its reach and offerings, including a major rebranding of its news services in January 2026 to unify them under the EWTN News identity.
