Diageo plc is a British multinational alcoholic beverage company headquartered in London, England. Formed in 1997 through the merger of Guinness plc and Grand Metropolitan plc, the company specializes in the production, marketing, and distribution of premium spirits, beer, and wine. Diageo's mission centers on delivering premium beverage experiences globally, building and sustaining exceptional brands, and shaping consumer trends, underpinned by its "Spirit of Progress" ESG action plan aimed at fostering a more inclusive and sustainable world.

With a portfolio exceeding 200 brands, Diageo distributes its products in nearly 180 countries worldwide. Key brands include Johnnie Walker Scotch whisky, Guinness stout, Smirnoff vodka, Tanqueray gin, Baileys Irish Cream, Captain Morgan rum, Crown Royal whisky, and Don Julio tequila. The company emphasizes a premiumization strategy, with its premium-plus brands significantly contributing to net sales, and maintains a strong market presence across Europe, North America, Latin America, the Caribbean, Asia–Pacific, and Africa, with North America being a substantial revenue contributor.

Under the leadership of CEO Sir Dave Lewis, who assumed the role in January 2026, Diageo announced significant cost-cutting measures and potential layoffs in June 2026 to enhance profitability amidst sluggish U.S. sales and a notable decline in stock value since 2021. The company aims to achieve $625 million in cost savings. Recent strategic activities include the reopening of the Port Ellen distillery in March 2024 and the acquisition of non-alcoholic spirits brand Ritual Zero Proof in September 2024. Diageo holds a leading position in the global spirits market, commanding an estimated 5% share by volume in fiscal year 2025, with a higher value share attributed to its premium offerings.
