Department of Tourism (Philippines)
The Department of Tourism (DOT) is the executive department of the Philippine government, primarily responsible for the regulation of the Philippine tourism industry and the promotion of the Philippines as a global tourist destination. Established on May 11, 1973, its core mission is to encourage, promote, and develop tourism as a significant socio-economic activity, aiming to generate foreign currency, create local employment, and broadly distribute the benefits of tourism across both private and public sectors. The department's headquarters is located at the IPO Building, 351 Sen. Gil J. Puyat Avenue, Bel-Air, Makati.
The DOT's functions encompass policy formulation and planning, the regulation and accreditation of tourism enterprises, and extensive tourism promotion efforts. It is tasked with developing comprehensive National Tourism Development Plans, setting and enforcing standards for tourism facilities and services, and executing marketing campaigns to promote the Philippines domestically and internationally. The department also oversees several attached agencies, including the Tourism Promotions Board (TPB), the Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority (TIEZA), and the Philippine Retirement Authority (PRA), which contribute to its broader objectives.
As of April 10, 2026, Dita Angara-Mathay serves as the Secretary of Tourism. Under her leadership, the DOT launched the "Discover More to Love" domestic tourism campaign in July 2026, a nationwide initiative designed to encourage Filipinos to explore the country through curated travel deals. Additionally, the department recently appointed the P-pop group BINI as its newest tourism ambassadors, leveraging their influence to showcase the Philippines' vibrant culture and diverse destinations to wider audiences.
