CTIA is a 501(c)(6) nonprofit trade association representing the U.S. wireless communications industry. Established in 1984 and headquartered in Washington, D.C., its core mission is to advocate for policies that foster innovation, investment, and the expansion of wireless broadband infrastructure and services, enabling consumers to lead a connected life in the 21st century.

The association's services encompass policy advocacy across various domains, including spectrum allocation, broadband deployment, 5G and emerging technology policy, cybersecurity standards, net neutrality, privacy, and public safety. CTIA also operates certification programs for the wireless industry, setting standards for devices, test labs, technicians, and repair facilities, and manages the Short Code Registry for mobile messaging services. It convenes the industry to coordinate voluntary best practices and initiatives.

Ajit Pai assumed the role of President and CEO of CTIA on April 1, 2025. In May 2026, CTIA released a report advocating for increased licensed spectrum to meet the growing demand from artificial intelligence users, highlighting a potential $1.4 trillion drag on U.S. GDP if this demand is not met. The organization also announced the publication of version 5.1 of its Wireless Device Grading Scales Criteria and Definitions in June 2026, a voluntary industry standard for pre-owned wireless devices. The wireless industry, represented by CTIA, continues to demonstrate significant investment and rapid growth in 5G adoption and data usage across the U.S.
