The Competition Bureau is an independent law enforcement agency of the Government of Canada, dedicated to protecting and promoting competition for the benefit of Canadian consumers and businesses. Its mission is to ensure that markets operate in a competitive and innovative manner. The Bureau's headquarters are located at Place du Portage I, 50 Victoria Street, Gatineau, Quebec, K1A 0C9.

The Bureau administers and enforces several key pieces of legislation, including the Competition Act, the Consumer Packaging and Labelling Act (excluding food), the Textile Labelling Act, and the Precious Metals Marking Act. Its core services involve investigating anti-competitive practices such as price-fixing, bid-rigging, abuse of dominant market positions, and deceptive marketing. Additionally, it reviews mergers and acquisitions to prevent harm to competition and advocates for pro-competitive policies across all levels of government and various market segments. The Bureau also provides educational resources to foster compliance and awareness of competition law.

Jeanne Pratt currently serves as the Interim Commissioner of Competition. In recent news, the Competition Bureau announced in June 2026 an examination into competition across Canada's food supply chain, aiming to understand how it affects grocery prices for consumers. This initiative builds upon a 2023 retail grocery market study and will investigate potential issues in production, processing, transportation, distribution, and retail pricing practices. A final report with findings and recommendations to the government is anticipated in spring 2027.
