CIEE, Inc., commonly known as CIEE, is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization headquartered in Portland, Maine, U.S.. Founded in 1947, its core mission is to help individuals gain understanding, acquire knowledge, and develop skills for living in a globally interdependent and culturally diverse world through meaningful international exchange programs. The organization aims to humanize international relations and foster peace by building bridges of mutual understanding between different people, countries, and cultures.

CIEE offers a comprehensive suite of international education and exchange programs for various market segments, including College Study Abroad, High School Study Abroad, Work Abroad (such as Work & Travel USA), Teach Abroad (TEFL certification), Gap Year Abroad, and Internships Abroad. As the largest sponsor for U.S. Department of State J-1 Visa programs, CIEE facilitates experiences for tens of thousands of participants annually. The organization operates numerous study centers globally, supporting hundreds of programs for students from U.S. colleges and universities, and also helps international students participate in U.S.-based exchange programs. Additionally, CIEE has partnered with Arizona State University to offer online courses, aiming to break down curriculum barriers for students studying abroad.

Under the leadership of President & CEO James P. Pellow, Ed.D., CIEE maintains its position as the oldest and largest non-profit study abroad and intercultural exchange organization in the U.S.. In recent years, CIEE has demonstrated a commitment to expanding access to international education, including a $20 million pledge in scholarships to the Generation Study Abroad initiative and an annual $20,000 grant for innovative study abroad programs. In May 2024, CIEE selected four institutions to receive $1 million grants each, matched by the institutions, to establish new study abroad programs, totaling $8 million in funding over four years. The organization is also expanding its global footprint with new CIEE Center locations and enhanced program models. CIEE has publicly affirmed its commitment to its non-profit mission, stating it is not for sale to for-profit entities.
