Chartered Professional Accountants of Canada (CPA Canada)
Chartered Professional Accountants of Canada (CPA Canada) is the national organization representing the Canadian accounting profession. Established through the unification of the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants (CICA), the Society of Management Accountants of Canada (CMA Canada), and Certified General Accountants of Canada (CGA-Canada), its mission is to enhance the influence, relevance, and value of the Canadian CPA profession. Headquartered in Toronto, Canada, CPA Canada serves over 217,000 members globally.
The organization's core activities include supporting the setting of accounting, auditing, and assurance standards for business, non-profits, and government. CPA Canada also develops and delivers a comprehensive CPA certification program, offers professional development courses, and publishes guidance and professional literature, such as Pivot Magazine. It advocates for public policy related to tax, fiscal policy, financial literacy, and sustainability, and represents Canadian CPAs at national and international levels.
Pamela Steer serves as the President and CEO of CPA Canada, having assumed the role in April 2022. The organization recently implemented a new governance model, effective April 1, 2026, aimed at strengthening accountability to its individual members. This transition follows a December 2024 split with CPA Ontario and CPA Quebec over governance matters, though agreements for coordinated standards, education, and optional national membership remain in place.
