Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards, Inc. (CFP Board)
The Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards, Inc., commonly known as CFP Board, is a non-profit organization established in 1985. Its core mission is to benefit the public by upholding the CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ (CFP®) certification as the recognized standard of excellence for competent and ethical personal financial planning. Headquartered in Washington, D.C., CFP Board sets and enforces rigorous standards for financial planning professionals in the United States.
CFP Board's primary service involves administering the CFP® certification, which includes setting and enforcing comprehensive education, examination, experience, and ethics requirements for CFP® professionals. The organization also provides resources for individuals pursuing certification, such as study materials and continuing education, and maintains a public directory to help consumers find qualified financial planners. Through its affiliated CFP Board Center for Financial Planning, it aims to advance ethical financial planning and foster diversity within the profession.
In recent leadership changes, K. Dane Snowden was appointed Chief Executive Officer, effective March 16, 2026, succeeding Kevin R. Keller. Additionally, Terri Kallsen assumed the role of Board Chair on January 1, 2026.
