AARP (Pennsylvania)
AARP, formerly known as the American Association of Retired Persons, is a nonpartisan 501(c)(4) nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering people to choose how they live as they age. Headquartered in Washington, D.C., AARP maintains state offices across the U.S., including AARP Pennsylvania, which serves 1.8 million members in the Commonwealth from its offices in Harrisburg and Philadelphia.
The organization's core business revolves around advocacy, information, and service for individuals aged 50 and older. Key offerings include advocating for policies related to Medicare, Social Security, and prescription drug costs, as well as providing resources on financial well-being, health, caregiving, and fraud prevention. AARP also offers various member benefits, such as discounts on travel, insurance, and consumer products, alongside educational content and community programs.
Nora Dowd Eisenhower serves as the Volunteer State President for AARP Pennsylvania, with Bill Johnston-Walsh as the State Director. In May 2023, AARP Pennsylvania collaborated with Governor Josh Shapiro to launch a Master Plan for Older Adults in the state, aiming to build an age- and disability-friendly Commonwealth. Nationally, AARP continues to be active in current events, recently launching "Protect Week" in April 2026 to combat financial scams and advocating for policies like caregiver tax credits and keeping medical debt off credit reports.
