Viettel Taps Singapore as Launchpad for Global Tech Ambition
SINGAPORE – February 04, 2026 – Vietnamese technology and telecommunications giant Viettel Group has officially inaugurated its Representative Office in Singapore, a strategic move that signals a significant acceleration of its global ambitions and deepens the burgeoning high-tech cooperation between Vietnam and Singapore.
The opening ceremony, held today, was attended by high-level dignitaries including Senior Lieutenant General Hoang Xuan Chien, Deputy Minister of National Defence of Vietnam, and Vietnamese Ambassador to Singapore Tran Phuoc Anh. Their presence underscores the national significance of this expansion, which positions Viettel to leverage Singapore's world-class innovation ecosystem to advance its capabilities in artificial intelligence (AI), cybersecurity, digital transformation, and aerospace.
This move marks a pivotal chapter for Viettel, a company that has quietly grown into a global force, and reinforces the evolving economic relationship between two of Southeast Asia's most dynamic economies.
A Strategic Leap into a Global Tech Hub
Viettel's choice of Singapore is a calculated one, tapping into the city-state's long-established reputation as a premier global hub for technology, finance, and talent. Singapore offers an unparalleled gateway to the broader Asian market, supported by a robust legal framework and proactive government agencies like the Economic Development Board (EDB) and Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA), which actively cultivate a fertile ground for innovation.
For a company like Viettel, which is transitioning from a regional telecommunications leader to a global high-tech competitor, Singapore provides the ideal launchpad. The new office is tasked with five key missions: developing regional digital infrastructure, deploying national-scale digital transformation solutions, promoting high-tech research, cultivating top-tier tech talent, and strengthening technology diplomacy.
"The establishment of Viettel's Representative Office in Singapore demonstrates Viettel's strong determination to participate more deeply in the global value chain, access advanced international standards, and expand cooperation with leading strategic partners," stated Senior Lieutenant General Hoang Xuan Chien at the inauguration. He reaffirmed the Vietnamese Ministry of National Defence's support for such international cooperation, highlighting the office's role as a vital bridge for investment and innovation between the two countries.
From Telecom Giant to Innovation Powerhouse
While this Singaporean expansion represents a new frontier, it is built on a foundation of remarkable international success. Viettel's international arm, Viettel Global, already operates in 10 countries across Asia, Africa, and Latin America, holding the number one market position in seven of them, including Laos, Cambodia, and Mozambique. In 2025, the company's overseas markets reported a collective revenue of $3.34 billion, with a growth rate seven times higher than the global industry average.
This success has fueled Viettel's evolution beyond traditional telecommunications. The company now positions itself as a comprehensive digital ecosystem provider, with core interests in digital infrastructure, finance, cybersecurity, and high-tech manufacturing. This ambition was recently underscored by a landmark move in January 2026, when Viettel broke ground on Vietnam's first semiconductor fabrication plant, aiming to enter the complex world of chip manufacturing.
Mr. Cao Anh Son, Deputy General Director of Viettel Group, emphasized the company's collaborative approach. "Viettel comes to Singapore with a spirit of long-term, trusted cooperation and shared value creation," he said. "We are committed to respecting local laws and standards, promoting transparent partnerships, and investing in technology, people, and innovation."
Forging Alliances, Building the Future
Central to Viettel's strategy is the formation of powerful alliances. Concurrent with the office inauguration, the company announced a suite of cooperation agreements with leading international technology firms, immediately embedding itself within a global network of expertise.
These partnerships span a wide range of critical sectors:
- Aerospace and Public Safety: Agreements with ST Engineering, Honeywell International Inc., and Airbus will bolster Viettel's capabilities in aerospace, public safety, and AI-enabled automation.
- Cybersecurity: A partnership with Truvisor, a key technology distributor in Asia, will enhance its cybersecurity offerings, a domain where Viettel already serves as a critical backbone for Vietnam.
- Connectivity and Cloud: Collaborations with China Unicom and Commvault Systems will focus on data connectivity, telecommunications, and cloud computing, which are fundamental to Viettel's digital infrastructure goals.
These agreements are part of a broader pattern of strategic collaboration. In recent years, Viettel has partnered with France-based InnoSynthex to enter the European cybersecurity market, teamed up with Visa to advance digital payments, and signed MOUs in the United States to develop AI-powered aviation solutions. This network of partners is crucial for accelerating Viettel's integration into global supply chains and technology ecosystems.
Elevating Vietnam-Singapore Tech Diplomacy
The opening of Viettel's office is more than a corporate milestone; it represents a significant development in the Vietnam-Singapore Comprehensive Strategic Partnership (CSP), which was established in March 2025. Officials see this move as a tangible step in elevating the bilateral relationship beyond its traditional pillars of trade and investment.
Vietnamese Ambassador to Singapore Tran Phuoc Anh emphasized this point, noting that the presence of major Vietnamese technology groups helps shift bilateral cooperation towards "technology collaboration, innovation, and future industries." He affirmed the embassy's readiness to support Viettel and other Vietnamese businesses in establishing a sustainable presence in Singapore.
This evolution builds upon a strong economic foundation. Singapore is Vietnam's largest investor in ASEAN, and the iconic Vietnam-Singapore Industrial Parks (VSIP) are already being reimagined as low-carbon, high-tech hubs. Viettel's new office acts as a high-tech complement to this industrial base, focusing on the intangible assets of innovation, data, and digital services. It solidifies a new chapter in the partnership, one defined by shared ambitions in the global digital economy.
