Triumvirate Opens Advanced Waste Hub in Arizona for Western US

CASA GRANDE, AZ – April 09, 2026 – Triumvirate Environmental is nearing completion of a major expansion at its Casa Grande facility, a strategic move set to introduce advanced hazardous waste disposal capabilities to a region grappling with limited capacity. Located on a 25-acre industrial site about an hour south of Phoenix, the project adds a new RCRA Part B hazardous waste facility to the existing non-hazardous operations, creating what the company bills as one of the most comprehensive and versatile treatment, storage, and disposal facilities (TSDFs) west of the Mississippi River.

The expanded site, which is expected to become operational later this year, represents a significant investment in environmental infrastructure for the Southwest and West Coast. By integrating multiple waste management functions into a single location, Triumvirate aims to provide a streamlined, efficient solution for a diverse range of industries.

Addressing a Critical Disposal Deficit

The expansion directly confronts a long-standing challenge in the Western United States: a shortage of modern, comprehensive hazardous waste disposal options. Many businesses have historically relied on a patchwork of aging facilities and long-distance transportation to manage their waste streams, adding logistical complexity and cost.

The new 60,000-square-foot processing facility significantly enhances the region's capacity. While established competitors like Clean Harbors and Veolia operate facilities in the Phoenix area, Triumvirate's new-build project is designed from the ground up to meet the latest safety and environmental standards. This distinguishes it from many legacy facilities operating under older, less stringent regulations, providing a modern alternative for companies prioritizing compliance and environmental stewardship.

A New Blueprint for Industrial Waste Logistics

A key innovation of the Casa Grande expansion is the full integration of hazardous and non-hazardous waste management. This allows clients from industries such as life sciences, manufacturing, higher education, and technology to consolidate diverse waste streams through a single provider. This unified approach is designed to simplify regulatory compliance, reduce administrative burdens, and generate significant cost efficiencies.

The facility's design incorporates an onsite, secondary-contained rail spur with capacity for four railcars. This logistical feature is a game-changer, enabling the efficient movement of bulk waste and reducing reliance on long-haul truck shipments. By shifting volume to rail, customers can substantially cut transportation costs and lower their carbon footprint, aligning with increasingly important corporate sustainability goals.

With a capacity to manage more than 3,000 drum equivalents, the facility is equipped to handle everything from lab-scale materials to bulk industrial volumes. It is permitted to accept all RCRA waste codes, including flammable liquids and solids, acids, bases, solvents, wastewater, metal-bearing sludges, and packaged chemicals, making it a versatile partner for nearly any industrial operation.

Inside the Technology: Beyond Simple Disposal

The Casa Grande facility moves beyond traditional disposal methods by incorporating advanced treatment technologies that align with a circular economy model. Central to this is a sophisticated fuel blending system featuring eight high-capacity, 20,000-gallon tanks. This process converts suitable hazardous liquids and solvents into a stable, alternative fuel source for use in permitted cement kilns, effectively turning waste into energy and diverting it from landfills.

Advanced wastewater treatment is another cornerstone of the operation. Four large tanks, ranging from 18,000 to 20,000 gallons each, will support processes like pH neutralization and steam stripping. Steam stripping is particularly effective for removing volatile organic compounds from wastewater before it is managed through evaporation, ensuring cleaner emissions.

For solid and semi-solid wastes, two 80-cubic-yard stabilization tanks will be used to treat wastewater sludges and other materials containing RCRA-regulated metals. This process chemically binds the hazardous constituents, rendering them less mobile and safer for final disposal.

Underscoring the commitment to environmental protection, all hazardous waste storage and processing areas are built on a foundation of epoxy-coated concrete underlain by a secondary poly liner. This dual-containment system exceeds current regulatory standards and provides robust protection against potential leaks or spills.

Strategic Expansion in a Growing Region

This expansion is a cornerstone of Triumvirate Environmental's ambitious growth strategy, which was significantly bolstered by a February 2025 growth investment from Berkshire Partners that valued the company at $1.8 billion. With a history of 21 acquisitions over the past two decades, the company continues to aggressively expand its geographic footprint and service capabilities across North America.

The project's path to operation has included rigorous regulatory oversight. The Arizona Department of Environmental Quality (ADEQ) conducted a 45-day public comment period for the facility's draft hazardous waste permit in the spring of 2024, providing a formal process for public input and ensuring the facility's design and operational plans meet state and federal requirements.

Located within the Central Arizona Commerce Park, an area zoned for heavy industrial use, the facility is situated to serve the region's growing industrial base. By integrating field services, transportation, and final disposal within a unified system, the expanded Casa Grande site is poised to become a vital hub for modern, compliant, and sustainable waste management in the American West.
