The 2025 report highlights an 11.2% year-over-year reduction in the company's CO2e footprint, driven by advancements in digitalization, an expanding e-mobility infrastructure, and a new circular economy initiative.

The Digital Backbone of Green Buildings

At the heart of Techem's strategy is the fusion of digital technology with sustainability goals. The company reports that 85.4% of its vast network of measuring devices are now radio-enabled, creating a powerful digital infrastructure across the more than 13.5 million dwellings it services. This network is the foundation of the company's 'One Digital Platform,' an ecosystem designed to provide real-time, data-driven insights into energy and water consumption.

By moving away from manual readings to remote monitoring, Techem enables property managers and residents to track consumption patterns continuously, identify inefficiencies, and optimize heating system operations. This data transparency is crucial for the building sector, which is a major contributor to global energy consumption and carbon emissions.

A Multi-Pronged Climate Strategy

The company's focus on digitalization is yielding concrete results for its own environmental footprint. The 2025 report documents a total corporate CO2e footprint of approximately 221,407 tons, marking an 11.2% decrease from the previous year. Since its 2020 baseline, Techem has achieved a 27% reduction in emissions, keeping it on track with its ambitious decarbonization plan.

Notably, this progress is attributed primarily to a reduction in Scope 3 emissions, which encompass the indirect emissions across a company's entire value chain. This indicates that Techem's efforts extend beyond its direct operations to influence its supply chain and product lifecycle. The company's long-term goal, aligned with the Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi) Net-Zero standard, is to achieve climate neutrality for the entire Techem Group by 2045.

Internal operations are also undergoing a green transformation. The company is aggressively electrifying its vehicle fleet. In Germany, 50.4% of its passenger car fleet is already CO₂-neutral, a significant jump of 20.5% over the previous year. The international goal is to have 25% of its passenger cars powered by CO2e-neutral drives by the end of 2030, a substantial increase from the 5.1% baseline in 2022.

Expanding Beyond Buildings: E-Mobility and Circularity

Techem's sustainability initiatives now extend from inside buildings to the parking spaces outside. The company is rapidly expanding its charging infrastructure solutions for electric vehicles, having installed 2,013 charging points by the end of the 2025 fiscal year. It has set a target to surpass 5,000 charging points by the end of 2027, all of which will be supplied with certified green electricity.

A major milestone in this effort is a contract with the Building and Real Estate Management Authority of North Rhine-Westphalia (BLB NRW), which involves the installation of up to 2,000 charging points for the public sector. This project underscores Techem's growing role in building out Germany's essential EV infrastructure.

Beyond energy consumption, the company is also tackling resource consumption with the establishment of a new Re-Use Center. This facility strengthens resource efficiency by implementing a three-stage process to reuse, recondition, or recycle devices and components. For devices that cannot be reused, the center can break them down into their basic materials, allowing up to 98% of the materials to be returned to industrial cycles. This circular economy approach addresses the full lifecycle of its products, minimizing waste and conserving valuable resources.

Furthermore, the company's commitment to transparent reporting was recognized with the prestigious ESG Transparency Award from the EUPD Group, which granted its 2024 report the highest rating of 'Excellence' and the status of 'Leading Company.'
