Distinguished chief guests BK Radhika Didi, a spiritual guide from Brahma Kumari, and Lord Dr. Frank Mentrup, the Mayor of Karlsruhe, Germany, joined VASVIK leadership in recognizing eighteen researchers for their outstanding contributions in 2024 and 2025. The awards spotlighted innovations that drive industrial growth, from breakthroughs in agricultural sciences to advancements in information technology.

Established in 1974 by the Patel family, VASVIK has been a steadfast pillar in promoting industrial research in India for over five decades. As a non-profit organization, its mission has been to identify and reward scientists whose innovations directly impact the economy through import substitution, cost reduction, and enhancing production techniques. To date, the organization has celebrated the achievements of more than 450 scientists, creating a legacy of excellence that inspires future generations.

Dr. Mohan I. Patel, Chairman of VASVIK, opened the ceremony by welcoming attendees and congratulating the recipients. He emphasized the broad spectrum of fields being honored, including biological, chemical, electrical, and environmental sciences, reflecting the cross-disciplinary nature of modern industrial progress.

The integrity of the awards is paramount, a point stressed by Professor M. M. Sharma, Chairman of the VASVIK Board of Advisors. Architects of Progress: From Med-Tech to FinTech

The true significance of the awards was embodied in the work of the recipients. The citations, read by Dr. A. B. Pandit, Vice Chancellor of ICT, Mumbai, painted a vivid picture of innovation with tangible societal benefits.

Among the awardees for 2024 was Dr. Mohanasankar Sivaprakasam, a professor at IIT Madras and head of the Healthcare Technology Innovation Centre (HTIC). His work focuses on developing affordable, implantable medical electronics. The HTIC, a joint initiative with the Department of Biotechnology, has become a leading med-tech ecosystem, resulting in 14 commercialized products that have reached over two crore patients. A standout innovation is a mobile eye surgical unit designed to tackle India's cataract surgery backlog, particularly in rural areas.

Also honored for 2024 was Ms. Prachi Kulkarni, Managing Director of Fidel Softech Limited. Her impact spans two critical domains: high-level FinTech consulting and grassroots financial literacy. While she advises trading firms on complex IT infrastructure, she also leads ArthShikshan, an initiative providing financial education in local languages to empower a wider audience. Her diverse expertise demonstrates how technological leadership can be paired with a commitment to social inclusion.

Representing fundamental scientific advancement, Dr. Tapan Kumar Mondal of Jadavpur University was recognized for his research in inorganic chemistry. His work on transition metal complexes has potential applications in catalysis, environmental sensing, and the development of new anticancer agents, showcasing the foundational research that underpins future industrial applications.

These individuals, alongside other laureates like Dr. Ch. Srinivasa Rao, Dr. Nitin Yadav, and Prof. Sushmee Badhulika for 2025, represent the architects of a self-reliant and innovative India.

He praised the courage and new perspectives of the awardees, emphasizing that science is more than just an economic driver. Joint initiatives in fields like artificial intelligence, advanced manufacturing, and sustainable energy, supported by bodies like the Indo-German Science and Technology Center (IGSTC), are a testament to this enduring partnership.
