Hofstra University Pioneers Next-Generation Athletic Fields in Landmark Upgrade

BAY SHORE, N.Y. – April 17, 2026 – Hofstra University has unveiled a significant transformation of its athletic landscape, completing major upgrades to two of its premier NCAA Division I venues, James M. Shuart Stadium and Bill Edwards Stadium. The initiative, a collaboration with long-term partner The LandTek Group, introduces state-of-the-art synthetic turf systems that position Hofstra at the forefront of collegiate athletic facility innovation in New York, emphasizing athlete performance, safety, and environmental responsibility.

The projects mark the latest chapter in a partnership spanning more than three decades between the university and the Bay Shore-based athletic facility contractor. The upgrades are designed to provide Hofstra's student-athletes with championship-caliber environments while reinforcing the university's reputation as a top-tier destination for collegiate sports.

The centerpiece of the project is the new surface at James M. Shuart Stadium, home to the Pride’s distinguished men's and women's lacrosse programs. The stadium is now the first NCAA Division I venue in New York State to feature TenCate PIVOT® Performance Turf, a next-generation system that represents a significant leap forward in synthetic field technology.

Developed through extensive biomechanical research, PIVOT® turf is engineered to mimic the feel and playability of elite natural grass without relying on traditional sand or rubber infill. This infill-free design is a game-changer, addressing both performance and environmental concerns. The dense, specially constructed fibers provide consistent cleat release and predictable footing, crucial for the fast-paced, multi-directional movements in lacrosse. Furthermore, the PIVOT® system comes with a twelve-year warranty—50% longer than the industry standard—and is designed to be recyclable, contributing to a more sustainable, circular approach to facility management.
