EnBW Taps XCharge to Fortify Germany's EV Fast-Charging Network

In a strategic move to accelerate the reliability and expansion of Germany's electric vehicle infrastructure, energy giant EnBW has entered into a long-term framework agreement with charging infrastructure manufacturer XCharge. The multi-year partnership, signed on February 24, 2026, will see EnBW integrate XCharge's high-performance 400 kW ultra-fast chargers into its market-leading network, signaling a significant step toward enhancing supply chain resilience and future-proofing the nation's e-mobility landscape.

For EnBW, which already operates Germany's largest fast-charging network, the deal is a crucial part of its strategy to diversify its hardware suppliers. For XCharge, a global provider with a growing European footprint, the cooperation with Germany's top provider marks a major milestone in its European market expansion.

Fortifying Germany's Largest Fast-Charging Network

EnBW stands as the undisputed leader in Germany's public fast-charging sector. Its EnBW HyperNet boasts over 8,000 fast-charging points, a figure the company aims to more than double to 20,000 by 2030. This ambitious goal is backed by a substantial investment strategy, with the company consistently channeling hundreds of millions of euros annually into its e-mobility division.

The partnership with XCharge is a direct reinforcement of this strategy. By diversifying its supplier base, EnBW aims to mitigate risks associated with global market volatility and ensure a steady supply of high-quality components. “Against the backdrop of global uncertainties and volatile supply chains, it is becoming increasingly important to diversify the supplier base,” explained Martin Roemheld, EnBW’s Chief Executive Officer responsible for e-mobility. “This broader base will allow us to secure the quality of our fast-charging network in the long term and bolster our resilience at the same time.”

This focus on resilience does not come at the expense of the customer experience. On the contrary, EnBW's leadership has been built on a reputation for reliability and user-friendliness, earning its EnBW mobility+ service the title of Germany's best e-mobility provider for seven consecutive years. The new partnership is intended to build on this success. “Our aim is to create an even more reliable and convenient fast-charging experience for our customers that simply works on a daily basis,” Roemheld stated.

A Partnership Proven in the Field

The decision to form a long-term alliance was not made lightly. It follows a comprehensive and successful two-year field test that began in December 2025. During this period, ten of XCharge's C7 Ultra-Fast Chargers were deployed across four EnBW locations, including sites in Stuttgart and Karlsruhe. The chargers, capable of delivering up to 400 kW of power, underwent rigorous real-world testing, successfully completing more than 20,000 charging processes.

The C7 charger is a formidable piece of technology. Beyond its raw power, which can add hundreds of kilometers of range in minutes, it features a barrier-free design compliant with accessibility regulations, integrated cable management, and dynamic load-balancing to serve two vehicles simultaneously. Independent observations during the test phase noted the chargers' exceptional reliability, with drivers providing overwhelmingly positive feedback on the smooth and dependable experience.

The positive results from the extensive trial confirmed the manufacturer's capabilities. “The partnership with the German market leader is an important milestone for us,” said Albina Iljasov, Head of Europe at XCharge. “The positive results from the field test confirm the reliability and performance of our charging stations.”

XCharge's European Ambitions and Local Manufacturing

While XCharge is a global company with dual headquarters in Hamburg and Austin, Texas, this partnership underscores its deep commitment to the European market. A cornerstone of this strategy is the planned opening of a new production facility in Valencia, Spain. By manufacturing locally, XCharge can reduce lead times, improve the sustainability of its distribution, and ensure adherence to the European Union's stringent quality and regulatory standards, such as the German Eichrecht for legal-for-billing certification.
