Canada's High-Grade Antimony Find Ignites Critical Mineral Hopes
- 2.07% antimony (Sb) over 27.05 meters (including 4.4% Sb over 8.6 meters) in hole BH-25-17
- 11.74% Sb over 1.65 meters in hole BH-25-22
- Global antimony market valued at over USD 1 billion in 2024, projected to grow by over 6% annually
Experts view the Bald Hill discovery as a strategically significant development that could reduce North America's reliance on China for antimony, given its high-grade deposits and favorable location in a stable mining jurisdiction.
Canada's High-Grade Antimony Find Ignites Critical Mineral Hopes
TORONTO, ON – January 09, 2026 – A major mineral discovery in New Brunswick is sending ripples through the global critical minerals market, as new drill results confirm the existence of a significant, high-grade antimony deposit. Globex Mining Enterprises Inc. announced today that its partner, Antimony Resources Corp., has reported impressive findings from the 2025 drill campaign at the Bald Hill property, a project that could become a cornerstone of North America's strategic mineral independence.
The results, which include wide intersections of high-grade mineralization, arrive at a critical moment. Antimony, a silvery-grey metalloid, is an essential component in everything from flame retardants and high-tech batteries to semiconductors and military hardware, including night vision goggles. Its supply chain, however, is notoriously concentrated, creating significant geopolitical and economic vulnerabilities for Western nations.
A Strategic Discovery in a Tense Market
The significance of the Bald Hill discovery cannot be overstated in the current geopolitical climate. Antimony is designated a critical or strategic mineral by the United States, the European Union, and other major economies due to its essential industrial uses and high supply risk. For decades, the market has been dominated by China, which currently accounts for nearly half of all global production, followed by Russia.
Recent moves by China to implement export restrictions on antimony and related products have sent prices soaring and highlighted the fragility of the global supply chain. This has created an urgent search for new, reliable sources in friendly jurisdictions. The Bald Hill project, located in the stable mining region of New Brunswick, Canada, emerges as a prime candidate to fill this void.
The market is responding to these supply pressures. The global antimony market, valued at over USD 1 billion in 2024, is projected to grow by over 6% annually. Prices have surged, with some indices showing a substantial increase in North America driven by demand from the automotive and electronics sectors. A high-grade, large-scale domestic source like Bald Hill could not only stabilize supply for North American industries but also command premium pricing in a constrained market.
De-Risking the Discovery: The Drill Results in Detail
The final results from Antimony Resources Corp.'s 2025 program, which totaled 8,150 meters of drilling across 34 holes, have provided a wealth of data that substantiates the project's potential. According to the report, high-grade antimony-bearing stibnite was intersected in 75% to 80% of the drill holes, indicating remarkable consistency.
The company highlighted several exceptional intercepts that point to the deposit's richness. These include a very wide intersection in hole BH-25-17, which returned 2.07% antimony (Sb) over 27.05 meters. This included a higher-grade section of 4.4% Sb over 8.6 meters. Another hole, BH-25-19, hit 2.75% Sb over 18.35 meters.
Even more impressive were the concentrated, high-grade zones, such as an intercept in hole BH-25-22 which assayed a remarkable 11.74% Sb over 1.65 meters, and another in the same hole that hit 8.48% Sb over 3.0 meters. These grades are considered exceptionally high for antimony deposits and significantly bolster the project's economic prospects. The overall average grade of mineralization across the program appears to be in the order of 4% to 5% Sb, with an average thickness greater than 4.5 meters.
Geologically, the mineralization has been traced for approximately 700 meters along its strike and to a depth of 300 to 400 meters, remaining open for expansion in all directions. Historical data and surface geochemistry suggest the mineralized system could extend for at least 1.5 kilometers, hinting at a deposit of considerable scale.
A Proven Strategy and an Aggressive Push
The success at Bald Hill is a powerful validation of Globex Mining's business model, which focuses on acquiring and advancing mineral properties before optioning them to specialized partners for further development. Globex, which acquired the property in 2021, retains an interest in the project's success, generating value for its shareholders without bearing the full cost of advanced exploration.
For its part, Antimony Resources Corp. has demonstrated its commitment with an aggressive and well-funded approach. The company, which recently changed its name from Big Red Mining Corp. to signal its singular focus, raised $9.4 million in late 2025 to fund its exploration efforts. Its management team includes CEO James R. Atkinson, a geologist with over 45 years of experience, notably including a tenure as Head Geologist at the former Lake George Antimony Mine in New Brunswick, providing invaluable local expertise.
Following the successful 2025 campaign, Antimony Resources is already planning its next phase. A fully funded 10,000-meter drill program with three rigs is slated to begin in 2026. The primary goals are to expand the known mineralization and to gather sufficient data to publish a maiden mineral resource estimate—a crucial step in formally defining the size and grade of the deposit. Concurrently, the company will advance metallurgical testing and initiate preliminary environmental assessments, methodically de-risking the project on its path toward development.
With excellent nearby infrastructure, including roads, power, and a deep-sea port just 45-55 kilometers away, the path from discovery to a potential mining operation is clearer than for many remote projects. As Antimony Resources Corp. continues its aggressive push in 2026, all eyes in the critical minerals sector will be on New Brunswick, watching to see if Bald Hill can fulfill its promise as a secure, long-term source of one of the world's most strategic materials.
