Breeze Airways Expands, Targets Bahamas and Underserved US Cities
- 15% surge in passenger traffic at Brownsville/South Padre Island International Airport in 2024
- $39 introductory one-way fares on select routes
- 4 million+ travelers at Lynden Pindling International Airport in Nassau (2024)
Experts would likely conclude that Breeze Airways' expansion into underserved U.S. cities and the Bahamas is a strategic move to capitalize on growing demand, fill market gaps, and challenge incumbent carriers with a cost-effective, passenger-friendly model.
Breeze Airways Expands Network with Bahamas Service and New U.S. Routes
SALT LAKE CITY, UT – January 28, 2026 – Breeze Airways today announced a major network expansion, deepening its strategy of connecting underserved markets by adding service to Atlantic City, N.J., and Brownsville, Texas, while also launching its fourth international destination, Nassau, Bahamas. The premium leisure carrier will also resume flights to San Antonio, Texas, after a four-year hiatus, with all new services slated to begin in May 2026.
The expansion, which includes a host of new routes between existing cities, is accompanied by introductory one-way fares starting as low as $39, reinforcing the airline's brand promise of affordable and convenient travel. This move signals the airline's confidence in its unique business model and its ambition to capture a larger share of the summer leisure travel market.
A Strategy of 'Seriously Nice' Disruption
Since its launch in 2021, Breeze Airways has carved out a distinct niche by focusing on routes with limited or no direct competition, often connecting secondary airports that larger carriers overlook. This latest expansion is a textbook execution of that strategy. By introducing flights from Atlantic City (ACY) to Charleston, S.C., and Raleigh-Durham, N.C., Breeze will provide the airport with its only commercial service to destinations outside of Florida, directly challenging the duopoly of Spirit and Allegiant Airlines in the region.
"Breeze’s convenient, direct service to underserved destinations continues to resonate with travelers, and we’re eager to introduce Brownsville and Atlantic City to our unique, elevated product offering," said David Neeleman, Breeze Airways’ founder and CEO, in a statement.
The airline's selection of Brownsville, Texas (BRO), is similarly strategic. The new nonstop route to Orlando, Fla., is currently unserved and aims to capture both tourism and family travel demand. With passenger traffic at Brownsville/South Padre Island International Airport having surged by 15% in 2024, Breeze is tapping into a growing market. This approach is made possible by the airline's fleet of Airbus A220-300 aircraft. Known for their fuel efficiency, these planes are ideally suited for operating profitably on what the industry calls "long and thin" routes—those with consistent demand that isn't high enough to fill a larger narrowbody jet. This allows Breeze to offer direct flights where travelers previously faced inconvenient connections or long drives.
Boosting Local Economies and Challenging Incumbents
The arrival of Breeze's bright blue tails is poised to deliver a significant economic uplift to the new and returning communities. In Atlantic City, where passenger traffic has been rebounding, local officials expect the new routes to "significantly strengthen regional connectivity and drive long-term economic impact." By providing more convenient access to key cities, the service is anticipated to position South Jersey as a more competitive destination for both tourism and business investment.
Similarly, leaders in Brownsville view the new service as a catalyst for economic growth, building on strong commercial ties with Mexico and tourism to nearby South Padre Island. The return of service to San Antonio International Airport (SAT) is a testament to the city's sustained economic performance and recent airport upgrades. The new nonstop flight to Raleigh-Durham, a long-standing goal for local leaders, fills a crucial gap in connectivity between two booming tech and business hubs. The added flights are expected to not only lower fares through increased competition but also provide more convenient travel options that can attract new visitors and businesses.
Eyes on International Skies: The Nassau Expansion
Perhaps the most significant part of the announcement is the addition of Nassau, Bahamas (NAS), as Breeze's fourth international destination. This marks a calculated step in the airline's evolution from a domestic disruptor to a budding international player. The new nonstop service from Tampa, Fla. (TPA), will be the first of its kind on that route in two decades, perfectly aligning with Breeze's mission to fill market gaps.
Breeze is entering a market with robust and growing demand. Lynden Pindling International Airport in Nassau shattered its passenger records in fiscal year 2024, welcoming over four million travelers. While established carriers like JetBlue, American, and Southwest have a strong presence in the U.S.-Bahamas corridor, Breeze is targeting a specific, unserved city pair. This targeted approach allows the airline to enter the competitive Caribbean market without engaging in a head-to-head battle on major trunk routes. The move to Nassau, following launches to Cancun, Montego Bay, and Punta Cana, solidifies the carrier's focus on high-demand leisure destinations and signals its broader ambitions for global growth.
A Summer of Affordable Getaways for Travelers
For consumers, the expansion translates directly into more options for affordable and convenient vacations. With promotional one-way fares like $39 for Raleigh-Durham to Atlantic City, $49 for Memphis to San Antonio, and $99 for Tampa to Nassau, Breeze is making a strong play for budget-conscious summer travelers. The new routes open up a variety of leisure possibilities, from beach trips and city breaks to visiting family and friends.
The airline's "Seriously Nice" service model further enhances its appeal. Unlike some ultra-low-cost carriers, Breeze offers a range of passenger-friendly amenities, including free family seating, no change or cancellation fees, and options for extra legroom and first-class seats on its modern A220 fleet. This combination of low fares and an elevated customer experience has earned the airline numerous accolades, including being named a top domestic airline by Travel + Leisure for four consecutive years. As travelers begin to plan their summer getaways, Breeze's expanding map and attractive pricing are set to reshape vacation plans for many Americans.
