EX.IO Cements RWA Lead in Hong Kong with Tokenized T-Bills, Bonds
HONG KONG – March 27, 2026 – By James Green
Leading Hong Kong-licensed virtual asset trading platform (VATP) EX.IO has significantly expanded its suite of regulated digital financial products, cementing its position at the forefront of the city's burgeoning real-world asset (RWA) tokenization market. The company announced today the launch of three new compliant tokenized securities on its institutional-focused Wealth Channel, a move that makes it the most prolific provider of such products among all locally licensed digital asset exchanges.
The new offerings bring highly sought-after traditional financial instruments onto the blockchain, including an actively managed bond fund, short-term liquidity notes, and U.S. Treasury Bills. This expansion not only diversifies investment options for professional investors but also signals the increasing maturity of regulated on-chain finance in one of Asia's premier financial hubs.
From Early Mover to Market Leader
With this latest launch, EX.IO's portfolio of compliant tokenized securities has grown to at least four distinct products, a figure that appears to substantiate its claim of offering the highest number in Hong Kong. The platform's initial foray in December 2025 involved a tokenized equity fund, and today's additions demonstrate an aggressive and strategic execution of its RWA roadmap.
This pace sets EX.IO apart from other SFC-licensed competitors. While platforms like HashKey Exchange have also been active, facilitating at least three known tokenization projects, and OSL Digital Securities has the infrastructure and a history of tokenizing bonds, EX.IO's rapid product rollout places it in a clear leadership position by volume. The move is a tangible step in its transition from an early market participant to a dominant force in the space.
This leadership is built on a strong regulatory foundation. EX.IO was one of the first platforms to successfully navigate Hong Kong's "deemed licensed" regime and holds a full license from the Securities and Futures Commission (SFC) since December 2024. Underscoring its strategic importance to the city's ambitions, it remains the only VATP included in the Hong Kong government's Office for Attracting Strategic Enterprises (OASES) scheme, providing it with a supportive policy framework and a competitive edge.
Bridging Traditional Finance with Blockchain Innovation
The new products showcase a powerful convergence of established financial institutions and cutting-edge blockchain technology. The underlying assets are managed by a roster of globally recognized firms: Golden Continent Asset Management Co., Limited (GCAM) oversees the bond fund, Cinda International Asset Management Limited (CIAM) manages the liquidity notes, and the world-renowned Bank of New York Mellon Corporation (BNY Mellon) is responsible for the U.S. Treasury Bills.
The involvement of a heavyweight like BNY Mellon lends significant institutional credibility to the offerings. The three products are:
- GNIT-LPF2 (Global Nexus Income Tokenised LPF): An actively managed portfolio of globally diversified bonds, issued under the SFC's regulatory sandbox, designed to offer stable returns.
- STBL (Short-term Asset-Backed Liquidity Note): A tokenized note pegged to 1 USD that distributes interest income monthly from its underlying collateral assets.
- TBILL (Treasury Bills Institutional Liquidity Ltd): A token that is 1:1 backed by short-term U.S. Treasury Bills held in segregated accounts. This product is a direct result of a strategic partnership between EX.IO and RWA tokenization specialist OpenEden, announced in February 2026, demonstrating the successful execution of their collaboration.
By tokenizing these assets, EX.IO aims to enhance liquidity, improve transparency, and streamline settlement processes, offering a glimpse into a more efficient financial future.
A Regulated Gateway for Professional Capital
Crucially, these new tokenized securities are available exclusively to professional investors, a designation defined under Hong Kong's Securities and Futures Ordinance. This typically includes individuals with a portfolio of at least HK$8 million (approx. US$1 million) or institutions meeting specific asset thresholds. This restriction aligns with the SFC's cautious "same business, same risks, same rules" approach, ensuring that initial participation is limited to sophisticated investors who understand the associated risks.
While this limits immediate market liquidity by excluding retail participants, it provides a regulated and compliant gateway for institutional capital to enter the on-chain ecosystem. The SFC has, however, signaled a potential path toward broader access, having recently explored allowing retail investors to trade certain tokenized products like money market funds on the secondary market. This suggests the current professional-only model may be a stepping stone toward wider adoption as the market matures.
Looking ahead, EX.IO plans to continue its aggressive expansion. The company's roadmap includes introducing tokenized versions of money market funds, equity funds, commodities, and even complex structured products, catering to a wide spectrum of risk appetites. Ms. Chen WU, Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer of EX.IO, sees this as part of a larger, inevitable shift in finance.
"With the rollout and adoption of Hong Kong's compliant stablecoins, we anticipate a surge in real-world asset use cases and traditional capital flowing on-chain," Ms. WU stated. "On-chain finance is evolving irresistibly toward atomic settlement and higher liquidity — a direction particularly well-suited for the future AI-driven economy and capable of generating exponential growth in trading volume. Moving forward, EX.IO will continue to leverage its regulatory leadership to bring more high-quality real-world assets on-chain. We aim to consolidate our differentiated advantages and contribute to strengthening Hong Kong's position as a global digital finance hub."
